When I started yoga with Aarti I was already practicing hatha yoga. Aarti introduced me to Asthanga, this changed my perception of yoga from regular class to a beautiful journey. Not only she introduced strong techniques which are fundamental to this journey, she taught me conquer my mind. Her insights on training mind, controlling breath and then finally controlling body helped me go deeper in asana . Her constant emphasis on being consistent has completely transformed my body. I would like to quote a simple example .. When I started Urdha dhanuraasna with her , I kept telling her that my back was stiff hence was not able to do it and she kept telling it was not back but was shoulder and scapula. With resistance I surrendered to her and she kept working on my shoulders for 1 year, today result is I can easily do this asana however the journey did not stop there Aarti being perfectionist she emphasized on going deeper and deeper in asana which I do everyday with her but this time with full heart :). Aarti is a fantastic teacher, and also a genuinely lovely person (which I feel is important when you’re listening to someone talk at you for an hour or more). Her directions are clear and precise so you’re not looking up to check you’re doing the right thing, and she’s very observant, constantly checking you’re positioning. Her classes are truly for all levels, and although you’ve worked hard you’ll somehow come out relaxed. The classes are stand alone, but if you attend regularly it is more of a course moving though different focuses which I love, adding new techniques every week to get more from each pose as you progress, as well as exploring new ones. She also motivates to set our own goals and assist working towards it. She is not just a yoga instructor for me, also a friend I talk my heart out with.
